Doosan’s foreign pitcher Brandon Waddell pitched the second game of a doubleheader, showing the team’s intentions for fall baseball.

Doosan won the second game of a doubleheader against Samsung 4-0 on Sept. 9 at Jamsil Stadium, using the same foreign pitching staff that held Samsung ace David Buchanan to just one run over eight innings in a 1-5 loss in the first game on the same day.안전놀이터

The starter threw 117 pitches through the seventh inning, holding Samsung’s bats to two hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his eighth win of the season (3-0) and kept the team’s hopes of advancing to the fall baseball season alive.

Initially, it was expected that the two foreign pitchers would face off in the first game, but Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop respected Brandon’s opinion. He gave Brandon a choice and he chose to start Game 2.

Previously, Brandon had pitched all but one of his 11 games this season at night. Although he had pitched well in one day game, throwing six scoreless innings, Brandon chose the familiarity of the evening game.

It paid off. Doosan lost Jang Won-jun in game one, but he bounced back in game two.

On the day, Brandon topped out at 153 mph, mixing in fastballs (45), cutters (37), sliders (30), changeups (4), and curves (1) to attack the Samsung lineup.

After the game, Brandon reflected, “It was a doubleheader, so there was a lot of pressure on the outfield and the bullpen, so I went out there with the intention of going long innings. (I threw 96 pitches in the sixth inning) and then I went out there in the seventh inning, and I was just thinking about getting through the seventh inning, no matter what,” he said.

“The hitters came through when it mattered and the bullpen did a great job closing out the rest of the inning. Personally, I think it’s a textbook team win when your starting pitcher goes long, your offense hits at the right time, and your bullpen settles down. Our team did that today,” he said, giving credit to his teammates.

Brandon, who returned to Korea in late June as a substitute pitcher, said, “When I came back, I told them the goal was to make it to the Korean Series,” adding, “It’s not about the long term, it’s about the day in front of you. The Doosan Bears are focused on each day. We know that our fans support us as hard as they do every day. We will do our best every day to repay their support.”
